Course DescriptionGeometry is an in-depth study of mathematics that deals with points, lines, surfaces, and solids and examines their properties, measurement, and mutual relations in space. Emphasis is placed on a logical development of geometrical ideas as students understand the use of proofs to support their reasoning.
Course Goals
Content Goal: Learn geometry skills as detailed in the Michigan HSCE's and the Common Core State Standards
Cognitive Goal: Become better problem solvers by getting better at asking questions, thinking mathematically and reasoning and communicating mathematically. Collaborative Goal: Become better at working together to achieve a common objective. Technological Goal: Use technology as a resource and a tool to help learn geometry. Homework
You should expect to have homework every day. It will sometimes be a set of practice problems, but at other times it will be to view a video, to complete an activity or task. You should complete all of these to the very best of your ability; anything less than that is unsatisfactory.
Grades
Romeo High School has a unified and common grading scale for all courses. The following scale will be used to determine the letter grade assigned to each student for each class taken:
Formative assessments may be retaken, provided all retake requirements have been met. Retakes must be completed by a specified date set by the teacher and must be completed before summative assessment. Grades are calculated and given a letter assignment based on the RHS grading scale (A: 93-100%, A-: 90-92%, B+: 87-89%, B: 83-86%, B-: 80-82%, C+: 77-79%; C: 73-76%, C-: 70-72%, D+: 67-69%, D: 63-66%, D-: 60-62%, F: 59 and below). Your overall semester grade will be computed based on formative and summative work, and a final examination. Your final semester grade is the one that is used to calculate your GPA. Supplies
Classroom Policies
Essentially, the rules boil down to a couple of basic principles:
Be respectful. Be responsible. Follow the school rules. That's it! Be respectful of yourself, your teachers, your peers, and your learning environment. Be cooperative and open-minded; raise your hand and don't talk over other people. Be responsible for your materials and homework; come prepared to class. If you borrow something, return it. Come to class on time and leave when you are dismissed. Anything not covered in the first two, is addressed in the Romeo High School Student Handbook. You are expected to know these policies and accept the consequences if you choose to break them. No cheating; you only cheat yourself! Attendance & Tardies

This is pretty straightforward as well. All district and RHS policies apply, including the rules regarding make up work. More specifically:
- It's very important to attend class everyday. There's a high positive correlation between attendance and success in school. However, if you are absent, you are responsible for the completion of any class work missed. Do not come in and ask, "Did we do anything yesterday?," of course we did. It is not the teacher's responsibility to track you down to give you your assignments. You are expected to check the class webpage to see what you have missed (and begin working on it) before coming back to school! Or you can check the class calendar when you return; any handouts you may have missed will be available in the "extra copies" bin. If you missed a test or a quiz, you must schedule an appointment with me to make it up. A student has one day to make up the work for each day missed.
- Being late under normal circumstances is disrespectful to your classmates, your teachers, and yourself, and it makes it more difficult for you to successful in our class, so please don't be late. The school tardy policy will be applied.
